Knowledge vs. Wisdom: Which One Do You Need?

Most people collect facts. You store information in your mind. You search the internet for answers. Gaining knowledge is the name of this process. Knowledge is a collection of truths. You need knowledge to do your job. You need knowledge to live your life. But knowledge is not the same as wisdom.

Knowledge is having the information. Wisdom is knowing how to use the information. God wants you to have both.

Proverbs 2:6 says: For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

ព្រះយេហోవ៉ាប្រទានប្រាជ្ញា ពីព្រះមាត់របស់ព្រះអង្គ ចេញមកនូវចំណេះដឹង និងសេចក្តីយល់ដឹង (Proverbs 2:6).

This verse teaches a lesson. Knowledge comes from God. Wisdom comes from God. You do not find true wisdom in a book alone. You find true wisdom through a relationship with the Creator.

Charles Spurgeon was a teacher who focused on Christ. People called him the Prince of Preachers. Spurgeon studied the Bible for many years. He had much knowledge. He taught his people to look to Jesus Christ. Knowledge without Jesus is empty. If your knowledge does not bring you closer to God, your knowledge has failed.

Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous. You see this in the world today. People have more information than ever before. But people are more confused than ever before.

Wisdom begins with respect for God. Proverbs 9:10 says: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

(Proverbs 9:10).

Respecting God changes how you use your knowledge. When you respect God, you use your knowledge to help others. You use your knowledge to honor your family. You use your knowledge to serve your community, including people in Cambodia.

Understanding is the bridge between knowledge and wisdom. Understanding allows you to see the big picture. When you read the Bible, you gain knowledge of the words. When you understand the words, you see the love of God. When you apply the love of God to your life, you have wisdom.

You are able to gain knowledge by reading. You are able to gain knowledge by listening. But wisdom is a gift you must ask for. God is happy to give wisdom to those who ask Him.

Think about your life. Are you only collecting facts? Or are you seeking the wisdom of God? Information is useful. But wisdom is life. Knowledge helps you understand the world. Wisdom helps you walk through the world.

True wisdom leads to salvation. When you use your mind to see the truth of the Gospel, you find peace. Jesus Christ is the way to the Father. This is the greatest piece of knowledge you will ever have. Applying this truth to your life is the greatest wisdom.

Take time today to pray. Ask God for a wise heart. Read the Book of Proverbs. The Book of Proverbs contains many lessons about cause and effect. If you follow the path of God, you will find life. If you follow the path of your own heart, you will find trouble.

Proverbs shows us patterns. If you work hard, then you will have food. If you are lazy, then you will be hungry. If you speak kind words, then you will find friends. If you speak angry words, then you will find trouble. These patterns help us live well.

God is waiting to give you the answers you seek. Knowledge is the start but wisdom is the goal. Reach for the goal today.
